We’re not saying Ruckus stole the show at Ruthven Barracks… but you try competing with a 14-month-old Golden Retriever who looks like that in Highland light.
Ruckus is owned by Ewan Cheyne of Mutley Snaps, a talented pet photographer based in Falkirk and one of the instructors at the 2025 Woofventures Retreat. Ewan generously offered up his own golden boy as a model—and we were more than happy to take advantage of that big puppy energy.
And Ruckus? He delivered. Equal parts goofy and regal, he posed with the ruins like he’d done this his whole life. When he wasn’t trotting through the dandelions or gazing dramatically at the hills, he was nudging us with that “is it time to play yet?” kind of optimism only a Golden can pull off.
Golden Retrievers may be beloved all over the world, but they’re pure Scottish royalty at heart. Developed in the Highlands in the 1800s, they were bred to be smart, loyal, and up for anything. Ruckus ticked every box—and then some.
Built after the Jacobite rising of 1715, Ruthven Barracks was meant to keep the peace. These days, it’s more often visited by photographers, hikers, and the occasional overly enthusiastic retriever who believes the ruins are clearly his new kingdom.
We’ll catch up with him again at Loch Morlich, where he swaps ruins for ripples and shows us what true water love looks like. You won’t want to miss it.
We photograph the heart, the quirks, and everything in between—because that’s where the magic lives.
