If single-minded focus were a sport, Rue would take gold every time—then politely wait for you to throw it again.
This stunning liver-colored English Cocker Spaniel brought his signature mix of poise and passion to Ruthven Barracks. With ears blowing in the Highland breeze and eyes locked on the prize, Rue posed like a seasoned model—but let’s be honest, he was mostly waiting for the ball.
Rue isn’t just ball motivated. He’s ball driven. He lives for the toss, the chase, and the split-second freeze-frame before the pounce. Every moment of our session—whether still or in full airborne glory—was powered by one singular question: “Are you going to throw it now?”
In Scotland, he’s simply called a Cocker Spaniel—no “English” required. Bred for agility, drive, and an eagerness to please, these working dogs are made for action. Rue is the blueprint: all heart, all hustle, with just enough fluff to make strangers melt.
Built in the early 1700s after the Jacobite rising, Ruthven Barracks once stood as a military stronghold. These days, it’s more likely to host historical daydreams, windblown grass, and—if you’re lucky—a perfect game of fetch with a dog like Rue.
He didn’t just strike a pose. He turned a centuries-old ruin into his personal training ground… and waited (perfectly still) for the ball.
Whether windswept in the Highlands or striking a pose in the studio, we turn their spirit into custom, unforgettable artwork.

Kristen Murray - That first sentence sums up Rue to a T! I’m so glad you were able to join us on the retreat and meet Rue. He’s such a special boy and you captured him fantastically!
