Our Story
We founded The PAWtographers with one goal: to create exceptional dog portraits defined by craftsmanship, intention, and emotional resonance. Every image is designed to stand as a lasting piece of art.
Meet Joan & Randy
At the heart of The PAWtographers is the partnership between Joan and Randy Walker—two professionals whose strengths complement every aspect of the portrait process.
Joan brings a master photographer’s eye for expression, light, and storytelling, while Randy provides the technical foundation, calm presence, and meticulous attention that allow each image to take shape.
Their combined approach results in portraits that feel elevated, nuanced, and deeply considered.
Joan H. Walker, M.Photog. M. Artist Cr., CPP, IAPP, FDAE, FDPE, FP-VA, F.Ph.-NC
Joan is the creative force behind The PAWtographers and one of the most accomplished dog photographers working today. With a career that spans showing, training, painting, and photographing dogs, her work reflects a rare combination of technical mastery and intuitive understanding of canine expression.
Her images are defined by depth, intention, and emotional clarity—qualities shaped by decades of experience and a commitment to excellence in every facet of her craft. Whether photographing a champion show dog or a beloved family companion, Joan captures the precise moment that reveals a dog’s true presence. Those moments become the portraits that clients return to again and again.
Randy Walker
Randy is the technical foundation of The PAWtographers—a steady, precise presence whose work ensures every session unfolds with ease and professionalism. A Navy veteran with a background in logistics and business, he brings discipline, organization, and thoughtful structure to every aspect of the portrait experience.
He has played a key role in designing and building multiple professional studios, each crafted with dogs, comfort, and artistry in mind. During sessions, Randy’s calm energy, expert handling of lighting and equipment, and natural rapport with dogs create the conditions for the refined, expressive portraits The PAWtographers are known for.
Meet Our Pack
We don’t just photograph dogs—we live with them, love them, and occasionally negotiate snack bribes with them.

From left to right in this portrait:
Dulce is our scruffy sweetheart and resident terrier mix, adopted from the Jacksonville Humane Society just before Christmas 2024. She’s fierce, fluffy, and has very strong opinions about squirrels.
Choco Taco (center) is our retired AKC Champion Havanese and the dignified elder of the crew. At 13, he’s a gentleman, a snuggle connoisseur, and still insists on the cheese tax. Always.
Mariposa (right) is our golden brindle Havanese and the baby of the bunch—though don’t tell her that. She turned one in March and was a heartfelt gift from a dear friend and legendary Havanese breeder after we lost our beloved Noelle (Choco’s littermate and Joan’s heart dog). She’s sass, sparkle, and an expert in toy redistribution.
Together, they keep us laughing, grounded, and constantly inspired. They’ve also thoroughly tested our studio furniture. You're welcome.
Toys? Ours. Couch? Also Ours.
Our Philosophy
We believe exceptional portraiture begins with respect—for the dog, for their individuality, and for the story you’ve built together. Our sessions adapt to each dog’s temperament and energy, allowing genuine expression to emerge naturally. The result is artwork created with precision, restraint, and emotional resonance.
Our purpose is to create timeless pieces that honor your companion with the dignity and beauty they deserve.
