Top 10 Dog-Centric New Year’s Resolutions for 2024

Welcome 2024!

My Top 10 List of Dogcentric Resolutions

Let’s be honest—when it comes to New Year’s resolutions, I’m a pro at breaking them almost immediately. Why wait to fall off the wagon when you can do it right away? But this year, I decided to focus my resolutions on making life better for my dogs, Noelle and Choco Taco. After a bit of reflection, I came up with my personal Top 10 Dog-Centric Resolutions for 2024.

1. Walk the Dogs Daily

Okay, so this was last year’s resolution too, and I dropped the ball when Florida’s “cold” weather hit. But my dogs live for their walkies, so I’m determined to make this happen—even if it means bundling up in a sweatshirt!

2. Feed a Healthier Diet and Treats

We’re already doing pretty well here, with both Havis at a healthy weight. We’ve also found a joint supplement that’s working wonders—highly recommended (vet-approved, of course). This year, I’ll keep focusing on quality over quantity when it comes to their treats.

3. Brush Their Teeth Daily

I know, I know…this one’s a challenge. I’ll start with a finger brush and a tasty dog-safe paste. It might be a struggle with my two Havis, but I’m going to give it my best shot. Will this be the first resolution to fail? Possibly…but I’m trying!

4. Keep Toxic Substances Out of Reach

We had a scare last year when Noelle nearly succumbed to acute renal failure after possibly being exposed to something in the yard. We’re hyper-vigilant now about keeping meds, chemicals, and even raisins far from their reach. If you ever need it, here’s the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center number: (888) 426-4435.

5. Attend Training or Obedience Classes

Old dogs love new tricks just as much as the young ones! I’m excited to join a class with the awesome Chrissy Dulano at All Fur Pets, Inc. here in Jacksonville. Training is fun for both dogs and humans—time to learn some new skills!

6. Join a Private Dog Park

I’ve been saying this for years, and 2024 is the year I’ll finally join one of Jacksonville’s fantastic private dog parks, like Brewhound Dog Park or Kanine Social. Small dogs, espresso bars, food trucks, and craft brews? Yes, please!

7. Visit My Dogs’ Favorite Places More Often

Noelle and Choco love their special spots, like the Jacksonville Arboretum and sunrise beach trips. This year, I’m setting dates on the calendar to make sure we get to these places more often. Neighborhood walks are great, but these outings make their tails wag even harder.

8. Stay on Top of the Heartworm Schedule

Heartworm prevention is critical, and while I have reminders on three different calendars, I’ve had too many “OH C**P” moments. This year, I’m making sure we stay on track—no missed doses, no excuses!

9. Get Creative with My Dogs’ Photography

I’ve captured countless amazing images of client dogs, but I’ve let Noelle and Choco’s creative portraits slide. This year, I’m planning some over-the-top concepts that will truly showcase their personalities and joy.

10. Hit Pause and Enjoy Today

2023 was an incredible year for The PAWtographers—we photographed hundreds of dogs, each bringing us immense joy. But in 2024, I’m making it a priority to slow down and savor the moments with my Havis and family. Remember, “Today is a gift, which is why we call it the present.”
