Seventeen animals. Seventeen second chances. And now, a way for their stories to continue making a difference.
REWRITTEN: Stories of Second Chances began as a celebration of 17 Jacksonville Humane Society alumni—dogs and cats whose stories did not end at the shelter. Adoption was simply where the next chapter began.
Their portraits and stories now fill the walls of the Jessie Ball duPont Center in Jacksonville, each one sharing something different about rescue, resilience, family and the extraordinary lives that can follow a second chance.
Now those stories are becoming something that can live beyond the exhibition—and continue helping animals still waiting for their own second chance.
The REWRITTEN Collector’s Edition was created to bring the complete collection together in one place. Each of the 17 animals is given a full two-page spread, pairing their portrait with the story of the life that followed adoption.
The 11 × 8.5-inch landscape hardcover is finished in black linen, with REWRITTEN quietly embossed in gold on the cover and a full-color dust jacket featuring Dulce, one of the Jacksonville Humane Society alumni whose story appears inside.
Only 50 Collector’s Edition copies will be produced. Each will be personally signed and individually numbered by Joan H. Walker.
From the beginning, REWRITTEN was about more than creating beautiful portraits. It was about showing what becomes possible when an animal is given another chance.
That purpose continues with the Collector’s Edition. Proceeds from the sale of each book benefit the Jacksonville Humane Society Medical Fund, helping provide veterinary care for animals who arrive at JHS needing treatment before they can begin their own next chapter.
The animals in these pages already found their second chances. Now their stories can help another animal find one, too.
Only 50 signed and individually numbered Collector’s Edition copies will be produced.
