"How do you get those awesome photographs? My dog would never sit still for that!"
Well, here's a little secret...
All dogs, all sessions, all locations are photographed with leashes on at all times.
The reason is simple...
Unless we are photographing your dog in your own backyard, all public locations -- beaches, riverfront parks, public parks and private gardens all have a leash requirement for dogs.
And there's another reason...
You will have more control with your dog and be able to have her sit, stand or down in the area we'd like your dog to be in, if your dog is on leash and only a step or two away from you.
Oh yes, and then there's this...
To get your dog's attention (to look at the camera) and maybe even cock his head, we make unique sounds, shake treat bags, and more. Even a well-trained and well-proofed dog will be sorely tested in his "stay" abilities.
And we *get* that!
Sessions are supposed to be as stress free as possible -- for both the dog and you. In that way, we can truly capture your dog's character and behaviors that you love.
All the dogs below had leashes on...
How do we do it?
Thankfully, we are in a digital era and we can lean on our Adobe friend, Photoshop, to do the heavy lifting.
1. We have our pawrents put their pup in a sit, down or stand.
2. We have the pawrent take one step away, holding the leash up straight.
3. If they can move farther away and lean over holding the leash up, we have them do that if possible.
4. Back in editing, we remove the leash! (and often the pawrent, too.)
What about running, jumping, action photos?
We use a recall line!
